Best known for its preserved 18th and 19th century buildings and its lively Old Town district, Alexandria, VA sits on the west side of the Potomac River, seven miles south of the nation’s capital. While the city may look like a quaint page out of history, it nurtures a strong technical and IT community.
Not surprisingly, many of the people who live here are part of the federal workforce or are employed by one of the hundreds of private firms that provide services to the federal government. However, with government agencies like the Department of Defense, Patent and Trademark office and the National Science Foundation, technical staffing is always in demand. Many private employers such as the Institute for Defense Analyses and software companies like Savi Technology and Softarex are also looking for technical professionals from analysts to developers. Toss in the city’s economic incentives designed to attract new high tech firms and technical staffing opportunities and Alexandria becomes an attractive option for the IT and technical community.
